This Special Edition of The Walking Herbalist Podcast showcases the Story of Herbstalk (www.herbstalk.org), a magnificent herbalism gathering that descends upon Somerville, MA on the first weekend in June every year. Herbstalk, now in its 5th year, is a two day event with a large marketplace including vendors of plant and herbalism products, as well as a menagerie of classes and plant walks. Founder Steph Zabel, her Husband/Partner/Co-Founder “Chief of Practicality” Henry Kesner, and their “Right Hand Woman” Assistant Organizer Catherine Iagnemma discuss all aspects of Herbstalk, from its conception in the mind of Steph, through its original planning stages, to the event itself, as well as what the future may hold for the team. This year, Herbstalk will take place at its usual location at the Center for the Arts at the Armory, 191 Highland Avenue, Somerville, MA, June 4 & 5, 2016. All are welcome at the Marketplace (which is free). Tickets will be on sale for class admission.
Herbstalk is not the only interest for this dynamic trio. Steph is an herbalist and also the owner of Flowerfolk Herbs, which offers a wide variety of herbalism services. Catherine, a practitioner of energy medicine, is also a voice-over artist (you can tell!) And Henry is a drummer in the Blues & Roots-Rock band The Ways and Means Committee, which you can hear at this year’s Porchfest in Somerville, MA (May 21, 2016). We hijack one of their songs (“Murmuration of Starlings“) for this show!
